Before The Vietnam War
Before the Vietnam War we did not have a set in draft. Over the early years we used the draft as a threat to get solders. Then when World War I and II hit we started to draft people and this let to many anti-war anti-draft protests. During the time leading up the the Vietnam war we had not need for a draft so we still had no need to set up a proper one.
After The Vietnam War
After the Vietnam War and even during it we where working on a proper draft. So we set up the "lottery draft" and the "Selective Service System". The lottery draft is where the president would pick the ages of people to be draft then all people who where in the age guide-line would have there name put in a wheel, then had there name pick and would be sent to fight. Now Selective Service System is an independent agency for the U.S government. This agency drafted men in to the armed forces till conscription ended in 1973. All though till this day there still is a Selective Service System.
